The Best Free Directories For Your Web Design Or Other Business

Listing your web design business or any other business in an online directory is another way to be found by both your customers AND Google.  Here is a list of free directories that you should sign up with here in the UK

Google Local Business Center – Perhaps an obvious starting place but so many people fail to list their business in this fantastic tool. Speaking from personal experience I know a lot of leads have been generated from this listing, particularly with people searching for local companies. If you haven’t listed your company already then do it NOW!
Freeindex.co.uk – I recommend free index for a number of reasons, firstly it is high ranking in google itself. It provides a lot of options for adding images, product lists with links and other information about your business. It also gives you a ranking in comparison with other businesses in the same category, e.g. web design, web development, web hosting. This enables youto see how well you are doing in comparison with similar companies, it’s almost addictive.
Open Directory Project (dmoz.org) This is my third and final suggestion, although not in the same scheme as the above two, if you are strictly looking for some help with search engine rankings then it would be a good place to list your site. It is maintained entirely by editors and they may not approve your site but you can always try!

Librarians’ Internet Index (Lii.org), Yahoo Directory, Vlib.org, Business.com, Best of the Web (botw.org)
Other places to list.
Approved index – good but we have experience of a lot of sales and marketing calls so you might want to consider putting  an incorrect phone number.
Yell.com – not so many cold calls from here but you can’t lst your url unless you pay so its not that fantastic.

Advertising and Marketing Trends in 2009

Advertising trends are changing every day. Marketers are always in search for new and effective ways to reach the target market before the competitors. However, if you monitor the changes in advertising and marketing trends for a few years, you will be able to see some regular changes. For example, online advertising is an unavoidable element in any marketing mix. Just to add, these developments do not occur all of a sudden. These are often a continuous growth or development over a long period.

So what are the advertising trends in 2009?

If you look at the advertising trends of 2008, you would see that many companies are investing on green marketing. In addition, we can see the same trend growing in bigger number in 2009. Especially if you look at the car branding, many companies are coming up with environment friendly cars that run on alternative fuels. Many experienced marketers think that this Going Green is not just a fancy trend any more. People have already started believing in this concept and the immediate need of taking some action. However, we would some changes as the Go Green concept runs. Today it is not enough that you advertise the Go Green concept. You must add a comprehensive story and show that your business or organization is actually supporting the cause.

As far as market segment is concerned, baby boomers are still the most important marketing demographics. More than 80% marketing professionals rank the boomers in top as an important or the most important demographics to target. However, generation X and Y are following them very closely. In addition, in 2009, the same trend will continue without much change.

As far as marketing trends are concerned, we can see some changes like these:

The marketers are more concerned about better customer satisfaction for better customer retention rate. This is somewhat different from the marketing trends of earlier years. In earlier years, when internet was developing into a great platform to get huge number of targeted visitors, marketers concentrated mainly on reaching more people. The equation was simple – more people = more business. However, now it is also important that you retain the existing customers. Marketers are now more concerned about reaching the niche – and this trend will continue even in 2009 – they are looking for better ROI.

Apart from that as far as online branding and marketing is concerned, social networks and social media promotion will gain more popularity. Marketers and advertisers will be trying different avenues to reach target market. In addition, the whole process will revolve around more personalized or one to one solution rather than one solution for all. To add to this, there would be much emphasis on quality product development.

To add to all these marketing and advertising trends, you will also see that people, even the small business owners, will be investing on branding brand loyalty development. Marketers will spend more time to find out niche to reduce the cost per customer.

These are some trends that we may see in marketing and advertising industries in 2009. However, irrespective of your marketing or advertising strategy, we would recommend you to develop a comprehensive and believable story around your brand. These stories will set you apart from your competitors.

Anime 101

Simply put, anime is a form of cartoon animation created in Japan, which explains animes formerly-popular moniker, Japanimation. Anime’s history began at the start of the 20th century. This was when Japanese filmmakers began trying out new animation techniques that were being used in the Western world. Anime did not reach mainstream status until the 1980s, and since then it has blown up not only in Japan, but around the globe.

Part of the draw that anime possesses is the fact that they can target wide ranges of viewers. This is due to the fact that animes are not confined to one category, but run the entire gamut of genres, including action, sci-fi, drama, romance, horror, and yes, even erotica. Many animes do not limit themselves to one particular genre and mix genres together.

Animation itself allows anime creators to convey just about any storyline they desire. It is much easier to make a cartoon about large robots featuring huge action and destruction sequences than it is to produce a live-action film including the same things. With recent advances in CGI animators have even more power to transfer their wildest imaginations on to a screen. Storylines, characters, and settings are limited only to what creators can conjure up in their minds.

Though animes seem to be simple cartoons on the surface, many of them have deeper storylines and character development. This may be conveyed through the use of character-based flashbacks, which portray part of a character’s past to the viewer, allowing them to understand why they act a certain way or say the things they say. Juvenile humor may be thrown in sporadically in drama-based animes, but do not be surprised if you see poignant and profound character development in humor-based animes as well.

Needless to say, not all animes are just cartoons for kids. In fact, the majority of animes feature violence, sexual innuendos, and language that may not be suitable for children. This is likely a major reason why anime’s popularity has exploded in the past few years across the world. With animes, cartoons are no longer just for kids, and even adults can find themes of romance and drama that they might otherwise find only in real-life television shows. The unique blend of animated characters with more mature themes is undoubtedly an enticing combination for adult-viewers.

Most anime series find their foundations in manga, or Japanese comics. These mangas are usually a few episodes ahead of the actual television series and have become popular among international audiences as well.

When animes are released in theaters, on television, or on DVDs in countries outside of Japan, distributors must decide whether they want to use subtitles or dubbed voices. There are pros to both sides of the issue, and there are strong proponents of both. Some viewers enjoy watching their anime without having to read words on the bottom of the screen, which they say take away from the visual pleasures of the anime. Others prefer to hear the original voice acting and enjoy reading the more literal translations. DVDs offer both sides a satisfying medium, as they allow for either subtitles or English voice tracks.

Now that you know the basics of anime and its history, it is time to find the right animes for you. There are countless resources on the Internet that give recommendations and reviews of numerous anime series, many of which are readily available on DVD and even on television stations. Pick a genre, read up on reviews and summaries of shows that you are interested in, and enjoy.
